Common Pregnancy Myth's
Author: Danni
There are so many pregnancy wives tales around it is hard to know what is true and what is false. Pregnancy myths tend to differ from every generation. Here are some very common pregnancy myths!
Myth: A fast heartbeat means the baby is a girl.
The Truth: Normal fetal heart rate is between 110 and 160 beats per minute. There have been no studies that conclusively show that heart rate is a predictor for a baby's gender. Your baby's heart rate will probably differ during each prenatal visit depending on the age of the fetus and activity level at the time of the visit.
Myth: Heartburn during pregnancy means your baby will have hair.
The Truth: Heartburn is very common throughout pregnancy and it is not an accurate predictor of whether your baby will be born with lots of hair.
Myth: You can tangle the umbilical cord around the baby's neck by raising your arms above your head.
The Truth: You can stop worrying about raising your hands above your head now! This is yet another myth!
Myth: You can tell your baby's gender by the way you are carrying The Truth: Other than ultrasound and amniocentesis (or chorionic villi sampling), there is no way to determine the gender of the baby you are carrying. Babies are carried differently based on their position, their gestational age and weight, and their maternal weight.

Most women want to know what the ideal weight is during pregnancy. Honestly, there is no one answer. Weight gain will vary from woman to woman. There is no one ‘ideal’ weight during pregnancy, just like there is no one ‘ideal’ weight that is just right for al women. That said there are certain guidelines that you can follow to ensure that the weight you gain during pregnancy is healthy. Most physicians will recommend the following weight gain: If you are normal weight before getting pregnant you should expect to gain between 25 and 35 pounds throughout your pregnancy. If you are underweight prior to pregnancy you will need to gain more weight, typically between 28 and 40 pounds during your pregnancy. Your healthcare provider will be able to provide... |
